Neshoba County School District Homeless Awareness and Support McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

Ensuring Educational Rights and Support

Under the McKinney-Vento Act, students experiencing homelessness have the right to a free and appropriate education. The Neshoba County School District is committed to supporting these students by ensuring they have access to resources, stability, and a safe learning environment.

Who Qualifies for McKinney-Vento Services?

Students qualify if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those:

  • Sharing housing due to economic hardship or loss of housing
  • Living in motels, hotels, or campgrounds due to a lack of alternative accommodations
  • Living in emergency or transitional shelters
  • Living in cars, parks, public spaces, or abandoned buildings
  • Awaiting foster care placement

While Neshoba County School District does not receive any additional funds for homeless students, we will provide them with the same educational services that other students receive. For more information regarding homeless education, please visit Department of Education Homeless Information

If you or someone you know may qualify for McKinney-Vento services, please reach out to the district liaison for assistance.
